I’ve mentioned that I’m incredibly excited to begin teaching my kindergartener using My Father’s World! As the school year looms, my first priority is to determine how to best organize all the goodies that accompany this package. After some research and pondering, I created a system that is organized, compact and hopefully user-friendly for both my kiddo and me.
A milk crate and hanging folders form the bulk of the organizational system. I labeled each folder tab to correspond with the week’s focus, using return address labels which I could run through my printer. This way I could have some fun with colors, but didn’t have to obsess about my penmanship. (Yes, these are the types of things that keep me up at night.)
I placed the week’s worksheets and the corresponding book(s) in each folder. As I pull together additional resources that correspond to a particular unit, those will be placed in the folders as well. The couple of books that were too large to fit in the folders easily fit in the back of the crate.
I cut out the ABC game and bingo cards, and the badge templates. Then I placed each of those as well as the ABC Flashcards into clear zipper bags and hung them from the side of the crate with small Command hooks.
Since the pages of the Cuisenaire Rods Alphabet Book are perforated, I placed each page into a clear page protector and then into a 3-ring binder. Keeping the pages flat should make it a bit easier to complete the puzzles and work with the rods.
Even if the extra time spent organizing and preparing is lost on my kindergartener, it makes this momma’s heart happy! Do you have any tips for staying organized for the new school year? Lets talk about it.
